Max Training Exercise Classes

Church member, Jesse Erickson, is currently leading two types of exercise classes each week. The first is a Max Training class, which was established in the Fall of 2010. The second, offered beginning October 2011, is a Pilates Class using a Balance Ball.

The Pilates Class is held Mondays from 6-7pm at Cross Roads Church.
The cost of each class is $5 and some of the proceeds go to Cross Roads Church. Please bring a mat, appropriately sized exercise ball, and water.

The Max Training, or Burst, class is held on Tuesday from 6-7pm. The cost for each class is $5. Again, some proceeds will be donated to the church. Please bring water, 3/5/or8 pounds weights, and wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothes.

What is Max Training?

Max training (sometimes called burst training) is a specialized exercise program that combines cardiovascular and resistance training. It requires less time than a typical cardio regimen, but burns more fat and helps you to gain more energy.

Why is Max Training Better Than a Long Distance Cardio Workout?

Long distance cardio workouts will lower your resting heart rate, lower blood pressure, and aid in detoxification by stimulating the lymphatic system. However, this type of training will also decrease testosterone levels, decrease the immune system post exercise, and increase stress hormone levels (cortisol). Increased levels of cortisol stimulate the appetite, increase fat storing, and slow down or inhibit exercise recovery. Max training has the benefits of long-distance cardiovascular exercise but avoids the negative effects. It also adds resistance training to help strengthen and tone all the muscles of the body. This gives you a more effective exercise program that only takes half the time!

What are the Advantages of Max Training?

Max training takes advantage of short bursts of high intensity exercise followed by a resting period. Research has shown that is type of exercise (bursts of exercise followed by rest) is more effective at burning fat.

Max training focuses on intensity, rather than time, and does not require any special equipment or machines. This allows each individual to work to their maximum effort, so people of all ages and fitness levels can participate in a max training program.
